About the Firm

Independent advice, transparently delivered.

Williamson Price Modern Wealth is a fee-only fiduciary advisory firm based in Reno, Nevada. We serve retirees, pre-retirees, and business owners who want financial guidance they can trust — without wondering whose interests are really being served.

What fiduciary actually means — and why it matters.

A fiduciary is required to act in your best interest, provide advice with due care, and clearly disclose and appropriately manage material conflicts of interest.

Broker-dealers and investment advisers operate under different regulatory frameworks, compensation arrangements, and scopes of responsibility. As a fee-only investment adviser, we owe clients a fiduciary duty throughout the advisory relationship and are compensated directly by our clients rather than through product commissions.

Williamson Price Modern Wealth Management, LLC is a Nevada-registered investment adviser. We do not sell investment or insurance products or receive commissions from product providers. Our recommendations are based on the client's circumstances, objectives, and the firm's fiduciary responsibility.

How We Work

Principles, not policies.

Fee-only compensation

We are paid directly by our clients and do not receive investment-product commissions or revenue sharing. Our fee-only structure is designed to reduce many product-related conflicts. Like all advisory firms, we may have potential conflicts of interest, which we disclose and manage as part of our fiduciary responsibility.

Evidence-based investing

Our investment process is evidence-informed, risk-aware, tax-conscious, and designed around each client's objectives. Portfolios may include ETFs, mutual funds, individual securities, and strategic or tactical allocations when appropriate. We evaluate costs, diversification, taxes, liquidity, risk, and the role each investment is intended to serve within the broader financial plan.

Integrated planning

Retirement income, taxes, Social Security, estate documents, insurance — these decisions affect each other. We coordinate them in a single plan rather than addressing them in isolation. The goal is a coherent strategy, not a collection of disconnected recommendations.

Deliberate scale

We work with a limited number of client families so every relationship receives genuine attention. We are not building an empire. We are building a practice where depth matters more than volume.

Our Team

Meet the Founders

Modern tools and thoughtful analysis matter. So do experience, curiosity, and having someone across the table who can explain the complicated parts without making them feel complicated.

Michael Williamson is a co-founder of Williamson Price Modern Wealth, an independent advisory firm built around a straightforward belief: financial advice should be designed around the client—not a corporation’s product shelf, sales goals, or internal priorities.

His path into financial planning was anything but conventional.

From Networks to Financial Planning

Michael’s professional life began with technology. As a teenager, he became fascinated by computers, networking, and network security. At 16, he was hired by an internet company in Texas, where his responsibilities included technical support, sales, computer repair, and assisting with server maintenance. He also performed contract work installing networks in professional office buildings and repairing individual workstations.

That early experience shaped the way Michael still approaches complex problems today: understand how the system works, identify where it may fail, and build something more reliable.

Michael initially attended college to study network systems administration. After being laid off twice before the age of 20, he reconsidered his direction and began pursuing a career in healthcare. He became a pre-med student while working in a hospital laboratory, expecting medicine to become his long-term profession.

Then a temporary summer position at Janus Funds introduced him to an entirely different world.

During two summers at Janus, Michael became fascinated by investing, financial markets, and the role thoughtful advice could play in people’s lives. At the same time, his experience inside the hospital system left him concerned about the direction of institutional healthcare. Ultimately, curiosity won. He changed course again—this time toward financial planning.

Nearly Two Decades of Financial Guidance

Michael joined TIAA, where he spent nearly 12 years helping university professors and other professionals develop financial plans, prepare for retirement, and better understand their financial lives. His clients included highly accomplished academics—even professors with PhDs in finance—who demonstrated an important truth: professional expertise and personal financial clarity are not always the same thing.

He later spent more than seven years at Merrill Lynch before founding Williamson Price Modern Wealth. Across nearly two decades in financial services, Michael has helped individuals and families navigate retirement income, investments, taxes, estate considerations, business transitions, and the financial decisions that affect families across generations.

Why He Founded the Firm

Michael founded Williamson Price Modern Wealth to create the type of advisory relationship he believes clients deserve: independent, transparent, planning-focused, and fiduciary by design. He wanted the freedom to evaluate strategies and investments based on their merits and their suitability for each client—not corporate incentives, proprietary products, or internal limitations.

His approach combines detailed analysis and modern technology with straightforward conversations and long-term relationships. Michael believes financial planning should help clients understand what their money needs to accomplish, prepare for a range of possible outcomes, and make confident decisions without allowing every market headline to trigger a new financial side quest.

Clients can expect him to ask thoughtful questions, explain the reasoning behind his recommendations, and take their concerns seriously—without making the process feel unnecessarily intimidating. His goal is not simply to provide answers, but to help clients develop the understanding and confidence to make better decisions throughout their lives.

An Unconventional Road to Reno

Michael’s arrival in Northern Nevada was nearly as unconventional as his career path. In 2018, he hiked southbound along the Pacific Crest Trail from the Canadian border. After stepping off the trail in South Lake Tahoe, getting his first haircut and shave in months, and considering what should come next, he decided to begin a new chapter of his life in the region.

What began as a stop along a long trail eventually became home—and, a few years later, the place where he would build Williamson Price Modern Wealth.

Outside the Office

Outside the office, Michael enjoys backpacking, mountaineering, volunteering with the local Humane Society, exploring new technology, and indulging the occasional nerdy reference. He believes a good financial plan should be understandable, adaptable, and engineered well enough to withstand both real-world uncertainty and the inevitable plot twist.

Before co-founding Williamson Price Modern Wealth, Richard spent ten years leading a large, customer-focused business and another decade building and operating his own successful retail company. Through those experiences, he developed a practical understanding of leadership, marketing, business operations, customer service, and the importance of creating an experience that makes people feel genuinely valued.

His Role at the Firm

At Williamson Price Modern Wealth, Richard oversees the firm’s marketing, general business operations, client experience, and design. He helps shape how the firm communicates, operates, and serves clients throughout every stage of the relationship. From someone’s first interaction with the firm through the ongoing client experience, Richard works to ensure that every detail reflects professionalism, clarity, care, and personal attention.

Richard partnered with Michael Williamson to create an independent wealth management firm grounded in trust and a shared commitment to doing what is right. He believes that strong relationships begin with listening, keeping commitments, and treating people with the same care and respect one would want for their own family.

Faith, Family & Community

Outside the firm, Richard is an active member of Living Stones Church in South Reno. He hosts a weekly men’s group focused on helping men grow through faith, discipline, accountability, and service to others. His faith plays an important role in how he approaches his family, his work, and his responsibilities to the community.

Richard recently married his wife, Mary, and treasures the time they spend together as a family. Their household also includes a young Goldendoodle, and Golden Retriever who keeps them active and entertained.

A devoted San Francisco 49ers fan, Richard especially enjoys taking his father to games each year. It has become a meaningful tradition that gives them time together while cheering on their favorite team.

Outside the Office

Whether he is strengthening the firm, supporting clients, serving his church, or spending time with family, Richard strives to lead with loyalty, humility, discipline, and genuine care for others.

Strong relationships begin with listening, keeping commitments, and treating people with genuine care and respect.

Location

Based in Reno. Personal wherever we meet.

Our Reno office is where most of our client meetings take place. We value the connection that comes from sitting down together, having thoughtful conversations, and building relationships that extend well beyond a financial plan.

We also enjoy working with clients outside Northern Nevada. Depending on each client's location and circumstances, we can meet by video or phone—and when appropriate, we are willing to travel. Whether we are meeting across a table or connecting from across the country, clients receive the same personal attention, careful preparation, and ongoing support.

We work with clients in Nevada and in other states where the firm and its representatives are properly registered or exempt from registration.
